Gems are a very beautiful and precious reminder of the world around us. Formed under specific conditions, such as extreme heat or pressure, they are mined from the depths of the earth itself. Selected minerals come together to form the vast array of what we know as gems. Throughout history, gems have played various roles in society. Perhaps due to their mesmerizing visual appeal, some have come to believe that gems have special, magical, even healing properties. But, is this really possible?
The truth is that gemstones do not have self-derived powers. No matter how beautiful a given gem may be, it is an enduring reflection of our Creator, the Lord God in heaven. Precious gems are gifts from deep within the core of the earth. They are placed there for us to find, use, and enjoy; but, their source should never be forgotten. Their mesmerizing beauty testifies of a God, powerful and divine, to whom we will all have to answer.
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:20).
